- Paying is just paying. At partner venues, your check-in and tip release happen automatically when you pay. No extra screen, no button, no eye contact required.
- Staff still get tipped — reliably. Instead of hoping each customer taps 20%, the team earns a steady stream from every member visit. Nobody needs to pressure you at the counter.
A few things to know
- The per-visit amount isn't fixed. It depends on the size of the pool that week and the total number of verified member visits. Quiet weeks mean bigger per-visit payouts; busy weeks mean smaller ones.
- You can never owe more than $10.99/mo. Visit a partner five times or fifty times — your membership stays flat. The pool, not your card, is what scales.
- Location services are required. A visit only counts if the app verifies you were there. If your phone's location is off, the visit won't be counted toward the pool distribution.
- Every member will get a monthly statement. See exactly how much of your fee went to which businesses and how many member visits drove the split. Statements begin with the first pool payout cycle.
- Until then, you're a founding member. Your $10.99 helps us reach the partner-density needed for fair payouts. If we don't hit launch in your city within 90 days, we'll refund every month you paid.

What stage is Tipping Club at right now?
We're pre-launch. We're signing up founding members and partner businesses ahead of going live city by city. Until your city launches, your monthly deposit sits in escrow — refundable under our 90-day guarantee.
How does the member pool actually work?
Each month, ~90% of pooled membership fees in your city are paid out to partner businesses. The split is based on verified check-ins — when you walk into a partner spot, the app quietly confirms you're there. The more often members visit a business, the larger its share of that month's pool.
Does the staff actually receive the tip?
Payouts go to the partner business via Stripe. Each business agrees, in their partner contract, to distribute pool payouts to their staff via their existing tipping or wage process. We're transparent that we pay the business, not individual servers directly.
What if my city doesn't have partner businesses yet?
Your deposit stays in escrow and is fully refundable for 90 days. We'll email you the moment a partner business goes live in your area. See the refund policy for details.
What does the geofenced check-in track?
Only that you entered a partner business's location, plus a timestamp. We do not log your route, store continuous location history, or share location data with third parties. Check-ins exist solely to allocate the member pool. You can disable check-ins in the app at any time.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Cancel anytime from your dashboard or through the Stripe billing portal — no phone calls, no retention scripts. If you cancel within 90 days and your city hadn't launched, email support@tippingclub.org to request a full refund.
Why $10.99/month?
It's roughly one good tip a month, which is enough to fund a meaningful pool when many members in a city join in. ~90% goes to the pool. The remaining ~10% covers payment processing (Stripe), hosting, and core operations. We're not a high-margin product — we're a redistribution layer.
How do partner businesses join?
Through our partner signup form. We onboard businesses that already accept tips — cafés, restaurants, salons, hospitality. There's no setup cost; partners receive monthly payouts via Stripe Connect.
Is this a tax-deductible donation?
No. Tipping Club is a for-profit company, and your membership is a subscription, not a charitable donation. It's not tax-deductible.
What data do you collect?
Just what's needed to run the service: account info (name, email, billing address), payment data (handled by Stripe), and check-in events at partner locations. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
